Ipswich, Mass. (PRWEB) January 14, 2008

Oceanview Publishing is pleased to announce that Stuff to Die For by Don Bruns is one of five finalists for the Lefty Award. An annual awards program sponsored by Left Coast Crime, the Lefty Award is given to the most humorous mystery published each year. This year’s Left Coast Crime Awards winners will be announced at this year’s annual Left Coast Crime convention, Murder on the Rocks, which will be held March 6-9, 2008, in Denver, Colorado.

In Stuff to Die For (Oceanview Publishing, ISBN: 978-1-933515-10-6, $ 24.95) Bruns, who brought us entertainment journalist Mick Sever, introduces the most hilarious duo in years – James Lessor and Skip Moore.

Best friends James and Skip are hardly on the fast track. James reports to duty as a line cook at Cap’n Crab, and Skip spends his days selling – or rather, attempting to sell – security systems to people who (a) have no money, and (b) have nothing they care to protect. Although James and Skip aren’t exactly upwardly mobile, they’re about to get literally mobile when James spends a surprise inheritance on a white box truck. An investment in the future, James surmises, as these two are starting a business. Moore and Lessor, or Lessor and Moore. Have truck, will haul.

Things are looking up when James and Skip land their first client and collect a handsome paycheck. But, this job can get pretty ugly, pretty quickly. While unloading the contents of their first moving job, James and Skip find some unexpected cargo – a bloody human finger. For these two, the phrase “dead-end job” is about to take on a whole new meaning. Instead of chasing the American dream, Skip and James will wind up running for their lives. As they scramble to stay one step ahead of the perpetrators of the gruesome crime, they’ll learn that there is some stuff you should never touch – and some stuff to die for.

In a starred review, Booklist praises Bruns’ protagonists, and notes that Stuff to Die For “will remind the reader of Tim Dorsey’s cast of whacked-out characters but with the narrative voice and feel of Mark Twain’s Huck Finn.” Library Journal calls Stuff to Die For a “quirkily engaging mystery… a buddy novel as funny as the movie Dumb and Dumber,” and Deadly Pleasures, America’s premier fan-oriented mystery review, says “Bruns is simply masterful.”

A witty, gritty mystery about big dreams, big ideas – and big trouble, Stuff to Die For showcases a sensational new side to award-winning novelist Don Bruns.

Don Bruns is an award-winning novelist, songwriter, musician and advertising executive. He is author of Jamaica Blue, Barbados Heat and South Beach Shakedown, a music murder mystery series featuring entertainment journalist Mick Sever. Bruns’ South Beach Shakedown was recently awarded top honors in the mystery/suspense/thriller category of the Best Books 2006 sponsored by USA Book News, and named a finalist in the mystery/suspense category of the ForeWord Magazine Book of the Year Awards. Don Bruns divides his time between Ohio and South Florida. Oceanview Publishing (http://www.oceanviewpub.com) is an independent press headquartered in Ipswich, Massachusetts.
Orlando, FL (PRWEB) September 2, 2004

With plenty of free time and few rules (compared to home) many students start drinking to excess during the first six weeks of college. According to the National Advisory Council on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism every year 500,000 college age students are injured while under the influence, 70,000 are victims of sexual assault or date rape where alcohol is a factor and 25% have problems at college such as missing class, missing assignments and doing badly on exams because of alcohol abuse. Communication with a student before and after he or she begins college has a huge impact on whether or not alcohol abuse will be a factor in their college life. With about a third of first year students dropping out their fist year, the experts at http://www.collegesafe.com offer a series of free guides to help parents and students with the transition.

WHAT CAN PARENTS AND STUDENTS DO ABOUT THIS?

How can parents keep the lines of communication open so that college students still feel connected to family at home? It can be tricky for parents to talk to students without them feeling smothered, judged or not trusted. The college safety experts at http://www.CollegeSafe.com put together a free guide on fun communication tips for parents. Communication builds strong emotional health and self-confidence.

This creates a pattern of success and gives college students the strength to avoid drugs, alcohol abuse and promiscuity. Here are some fun tips from the free guide:

• Send them a subscription to your hometown newspaper (or forward the local community publication)

• Exchange a joke of the day by email

• Put together a funky family photo stuff with funny pictures – put on calendars, mugs, magnets

• Tape record a dinner conversation where you include them in the conversation

• Send gift certificates to restaurants in the area (sometimes these can be ordered online)

• Have younger siblings or cousins send fridge drawings

• Set up a family website with pictures and updates

• Send postcards from home with funny stories or jokes on them

• Parents can exchange their own school war stories weekly with their student via mail or email

• Send them printed or emailed links to funny off-beat stories they can share with friends

• Put together gift baskets, for example, popcorn of the month, cookie basket of the month or other special treats

• Send them an inexpensive digital camera and encourage them to send pictures of friends with descriptions and stories

This is just a partial list; the free guide at http://www.CollegeSafe.com has much more. Other resources at http://www.CollegeSafe.com include college safety related information, products, tips, guides and the new eBook, The College Safety Guide. The people at http://www.CollegeSafe.com are dedicated to providing the latest information, products and news to help students have a safe and secure time on and off campus. Www.CollegeSafe.com is a division of http://www.MainStreetSafety.com , where your safety is their main concern.

You never know what mischief is lurking around the corner in GUYS BOOK CLUB.

Chicago (PRWEB) March 15, 2011

The new comedic web series, ‘Guys Book Club,’ launches today taking a comedic look into the lives of six disenchanted married men attempting to recapture their manhood by using a fictional ‘book club’ as an excuse to get away from their wives. Adolescent insanity and hilarity ensues in this funny, fast-paced, and free online web series at http://www.guysbookclub.tv.

Launching today are the trailer and first three episodes of this unflinching 9-episode “Skit-Com.” A new episode will release each Tuesday for the next six weeks through April 19. The total running time of all nine episodes together is 24 minutes, about the same length as a network sitcom.

“It’s sort of ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ meets ‘Pulp Fiction,’” says writer and director George Zwierz. “It’s definitely a dark comedy. One minute these guys are discussing politics over some Big League Chew and the next they’re plotting the demise of one of their wives using Monopoly pieces. This isn’t Oprah’s book club.”

Legendary news anchor and documentarian Bill Kurtis has high praise for the new web series. “If comedy was news, ‘Guys Book Club’ would be the top story,” says Kurtis.

Produced and set in Chicago, ‘Guys Book Club’ was filmed with an all Chicago cast and crew by Purple Stuff Productions, Inc. The cast features Dean Hill and Chris Meister both of whom can be seen on the FOX TV series, “The Chicago Code.”

“All the guys in the book club bring a likable irreverence. They’re the type we all know, and I think that will appeal to both male and female audiences,” adds Zwierz. “It’s just that some of their warped views and precarious judgments lead them into a myriad of uncomfortable situations. But that’s the fun of it.”

Zwierz says he couldn’t be more thrilled with his ensemble cast. “These guys are some of the funniest actors and performers in Chicago. They truly brought the characters to life,” Zwierz said. “Plus, I see Chicago itself as one of the characters. I want the audience to get a true sense of Chicago from an insider’s perspective. I think what people will see is an authentic view of Chicago. Both the city and the hard working people.”

The ‘Guys Book Club’ crew is hoping to secure sponsorships or investors to fund a Season 2. Zwierz hopes to build on some of the initial enthusiasm and support he’s received. “So far the reception has been nothing short of amazing, people are really getting behind it. My hope is that we’ll see the series take off and maybe even get some athletes or celebrities involved in future episodes. I’m looking at you Jay Cutler…it’s already written.”

New York, NY (PRWEB) November 8, 2007

Think you’ve seen it all? Think again. A new web site promises to tickle the funny bone and get your blood pumping at the same time. http://www.DumbCop.com is a new website dedicated to videos, photos and stories of of police officers doing some very funny, and sometimes not so funny things.

The site is the brainchild of Mark Smith and Rick Williams of New YorK City, and the pair says they know it will be controversial.

“Everything on our site is in the public domain, so it’s not as if we’re going out and trying to interfere with police. This stuff is out there, and we just thought to collect it,” Smith says, “That being said, police are usually pretty sensitive to criticism, and I suppose our site isn’t exactly complimentary.”

Complimentary it’s not, but Williams adds that they nevertheless expect to find a following among law enforcement personnel; “If I was a cop, I’d be all over it. The stuff that’s funny should cause them to laugh at themselves, and the cops that get busted for doing bad things are hopefully guys they wouldn’t want in their department”.

The content ranges from the funny; a patrol officer being chased by a smitten wild turkey during a traffic stop (yes, really) to the shockingly funny; a video of an LAPD officer driving straight through a concrete wall (eliciting an audible “OOOOOhhhhh” from the news anchor narrating the chase). In both cases, the officers were unharmed.

However, it doesn’t stop there. www,DumbCop.com has several videos of police officers losing control of their emotions, and the cameras don’t shy away from the resulting brutality. Some of the videos can be hard to watch because of the abuse they show on what are mostly helpless subjects. In many of these cases the officer’s employment was terminated once the videos came to light.

Smith and Williams are unrepentant, “If the police are going to break the law under the color of authority, they deserve every bad thing that happens to them as a result. However, it is important to note that ours is not an activist web site. We are not lobbying for anything. We are just showing viewers what is out there.”

Smith and Williams say that their motivation is purely to have fun, and if a little social commentary happens in the process, that is fine with them.

The next item on the agenda is to present the Dumb Cop Of the Year award, or DeCOY as they call it. The DeCOY is going to be presented, in their words, in the spirit of the Darwin Awards, as an award of ignominious distinction. Dumbcop.com doesn’t appear to be hurting for contenders.

Leading the way is Casselberry, FL police officer, Sgt. Andrea Eichhorn, who, according to reports, inexplicably decided to sue the parents of a nearly drowned baby after slipping on their wet floor while responding to their 911 call. Also high on the list is a Prince George, MD, officer who shot two furniture movers, killing one of them, and subsequently drew his gun on a property appraiser.

“Well, I guess you could say we’re not exactly lacking contents,” laughs Williams,” Adding, on a serious note, that he feels particularly bad for the victim in the Maryland case, “Yeah, that was just every shade of wrong.”

But will the Prince George officer be awarded Dumbcop.com’s DeCOY? With almost two months to go, Smith and Williams say the race is still wide open, and new content arrives every day.

We decided to asked them if they have a particular favorite video or story, and we got the answer we should have expected at this point, “Well, you know, there are so many and they sort of become like your children, you love them all equally…… ,” Williams managed to deadpan before bursting into laughter. “No, seriously, the one where the poor cop tries to rescue a lady from a house that isn’t on fire, while the neighbor’s house burns (rescue units were on the correct scene, but the lone officer and camera team were not) is wicked funny. I’ve probably watched it fifty times.”

Smith adds that, among Dumbcop.com’s offerings, the prison escapee that convinces a police officer that he is, in fact, a jogger, is a highlight.

Dumbcop.com’s official launch date is November 8th, 2007, and both Smith and Williams are anxious to see how many kindred spirits are out there. As for their eponymous DeCOY award, the winner will be announced on January 1st, 2008.

http://www.DumbCop.com is a unique website dedicated to the funny, shocking, and sometimes awful behavior of police officers everywhere.

The Crazy Mental team at http://www.crazymental.com have got a winner here with so much new stupid stuff and funny videos going on the site every week. The main guy involved is called Andrew Fox and the filming is around him and his friends wild nights out. Their plan is to be the next Jackass on-line and most certainly they have some crazy guys to make it happen. The filming is carried out every night they go out to party and some mild nudity is also included of guys and girls. They recently added a section where users can send in their own funny stupid videos for other surfers to view and the response so far has been amazing to say the least. One guy sent in a video of a guy taking a crap of the top of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, this is so funny and crazy and it is well deserved to be added to the collection. To view it click here http://www.crazymental.com/videopage/skycrap.htm

Viewers can send in their own crazy funny stuff and get it published on the site by going to http://www.crazymental.com/send.htm It is free to add anything you wish but no gross stuff or real obscenities will be published. Check it out now and see the Irish Jackass in action. This is certainly one to watch for the future as I have been informed that they plan to take a real film crew with them to Las Vegas or Ibiza very soon and film it all and I can only guess the craziness they will get up to, check it out now at http://www.crazymental.com you will be glad you did.

Stuff World website features shirts, bags, and accessories emblazoned with the trademarked “huh?!™” , “huhstuff.com” , or continuously updated phrases that create opportunities for the wearer to either tell their stories of personal achievement and epiphany, or to attract others who have inspirational stories of their own.

Mr. Germany explains: “Goal setting, personal achievement, and entrepreneurship can be very lonely and challenging pursuits. When I was doing research for ‘The Advantage’, one of the most common themes was the fact that the successful person in question spent a lot of time alone pursuing their dreams, while friends and family were either out having fun, or were nay-saying. ‘That will never work’, or ‘if that was such a good idea, someone else would have thought of it already’ are pretty good arguments when your support base consists of only you and your dreams.”

Mr. Germany continues: “Huh?! Stuff World provides hope and strength by attracting those who appreciate and understand the struggles of those who crave and actively seek something different. When you see an article of Huh?! Stuff World clothing on someone, you will find a person who has the vision, courage, and drive to change the way they live, and maybe everyone else’s (especially if that person is an entrepreneur).”

Gregory Germany’s story is a perfect example of why Huh? Stuff World will be so successful. “After a long, challenging evening caring for guests at a high end resort venue in Hawaii, I encountered some difficult situations where some impossible tasks were asked of me. I did all that I could to accommodate my demanding guests. However, in my head, frustration brought choruses of “What?!” And “Huh?!™” screaming into my thoughts.”

“While I solved most of the dilemmas, when sleep finally came, my mind could not let go of the frustration that I had been feeling all night. My dreams that night were equally funny and unnerving. I had work dreams; one lady asked for a dodo egg omelet (dodos became extinct in the 1600′s), and another lady demanded ‘real’ Buffalo wings (AAARGH!!).”

“After stifling about a million “Huh?!™”‘s in my dream, I woke up laughing, actually uttering the word “Huh?!™”. It was then that I thought about how many people must be similarly challenged everyday, and that “Huh?!™” would look really good on hats, shirts, shoes, and other personal items. At that very moment, I knew that my life was supposed to go in a radically new direction. So I got out of bed, picked up my credit card, and went online to buy 3 domain names, to set up my company, and to trademark my brand (I always believe that you should strike when the iron is HOT, even if your inspiration does come at 3:00am in the morning!). Besides, now I own the rights to the word “huh?!” in a country where everyone says “huh?!” Perfect.”

Mr. Germany is further buoyed by the fact that many other entrepreneurs (and other goal seekers) have experienced the same obstacles on their way to success. “I am a big fan of shows like ‘The Big Idea with Donnie Deutsch’ and ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ (Millionaire Profiles). These shows are replete with stories of the struggles that the hopeful endure.”

“My wish for Huh?! Stuff World is that it creates for the wearer a support system that helps them foster a happy, fun, nurturing environment in which they can become a productive, happy, and successful person. As one person told me: ‘Great relationships begin with cool stories’. My dream began with one, and I hope to be the catalyst for many more cool stories to come.”

New York, NY (PRWEB) September 12, 2006

In this week’s free issue, NewsLaugh.com, The Sanely Funny Weekly Humor Magazine, reveals that Western leaders, incensed by the increasingly frequent videos from Osama bin Laden’s second in command, Ayman al-Zawahiri, who they have taken to calling the terrorist Jack in the box, have released a video of their own in which they urge Muslims to convert. The video was recorded at an undisclosed location in New York. Here are selected highlights:

Jacques Chirac was allowed to take the lead in honor of the French role in the Enlightenment. He maintains some vagueness about just what he is inviting Muslims to convert to but finally manages to state that they should “convert to peaceful coexistence” and recommends that they also “convert from falafel to French pastry.”

Tony Blair says, “While I would never propose that Muslims become devout adherents of the Church of England, I do recommend that the more radical sort stop trying to kill Christians and others you consider nonbelievers. As an encouragement, I ask you to bear in mind that religious wars finally do tend to become a two-way street.”

Next, George Bush took the mike, stating, “Now, I respect the Muslim religion, but I want you to know that killing people in the name of Allah just gives Allah a black eye. I also want radical Muslims to think about this: if there is only one God and his name is Allah, then he made me and Crawford, Texas, as much as he made you and West Waziristan. So there’s no way he wants you to kill Americans.”

A surprise participant was a liberal Muslim cleric, who was, the video informs us, located after an extensive worldwide search. As expected, he speaks commendably. “I finally took out some time to do the infidel thing; I read the Bible. And I can tell you that, just like the Koran, there’s a lot of stuff in it about slaying your adversaries. So I think if the Jews and Christians have forgiven and forgotten that part of their holy book, we should forgive and forget that part of ours. After all, God usually doesn’t write down things himself. He trusts human beings to take dictation. And you know as well as I do that humans are imperfect scribes, especially when God appears at night and the tent is dark. Maybe, in fact, we ought to delete that stuff from our holy book. Then when we claim that our religion is better, we might at least be talking about a book that’s better when it comes to slaying other people. Hey, think about that. The way we can really distinguish our religion is to refrain, in word and deed, from slaying other people.”

The video is scheduled for release on al-Jazeera Television as soon as it can be hand-delivered across the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, and past various land obstacles, some of which are rumored to be controlled by Ayman al-Zawahiri.
